Hunger Games Bark

Today (in the UK at least) is the Hunger Games DVD release day! I have bought the DVD and spending the evening with my family watching it again!

No special movie night occasion like this is complete without some themed snacks! So I give you...Hunger Games Inspired Bark. I stumbled across this great bark recipe at Gingerbreadbagels and was inspired to make my own variation.

The ingredients are symbolic (ha...this is where I go philosophical on you!) The orange candy melts represent Katniss - the Girl on Fire, the Oreos (crushed up) represent the coal of district 12 and the chocolate...well its just chocolate (shhh!)

This is very easy to make especially in my current oven-less state (Kitchen still being redone) as all it needs is the microwave to melt the chocolate!

I made a small batch by using a smallish bar of chocolate - you can vary the amount of chocolate to suit your quantity desires!

Ingredients
Bar of chocolate
A couple of crushed oreos
Small handful of Orange candy melts

1. Melt the chocolate and candy melts as per packet instructions (in microwave or over hob - its up to you)
I did mine in the microwave for a minute then 30 seconds at a time until melted

2. Line a baking sheet or tray with baking parchment and pour over your melted chocolate. Form a rectangle (or whatever shape you fancy)

3. Add a few blobs of melted orange

4. Use a cocktail stick to swirl the orange around in the chocolate (have fun with this and add more orange if needed!)

5. Top with pieces of crushed oreo, cover with cling film (not touching the chocolate) and leave to set for a few hours until the chocolate is hardened

6. Enjoy and May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favour!

Hunger Games Cake Pops

Last week I finally saw the Hunger Games movie and I have to say that I absolutely LOVED it :) It was the first time that I saw saw a film of a book I absolutely loved and didn't sit there criticising it the whole way through! I cannot wait to see it again.
Of course, a trip to the cinema wouldn't be the same without snacks so I made cake pops for my friend Tori and me to eat!

I used this cake pop recipe. I did attempt to make the inside fiery by making each of the three cupcakes a different colour - red, orange, yellow - before I baked them so that the crumbs could be combined to make a fiery inside. Unfortunately the liquid food colouring I was using didn't seem to work that well and they all ended up an off yellow colour  - maybe I'll try it with gel colouring next time.

I got this gorgeous new nail polish - the black crackles over a base coat - I couldn't resist including it in the photo!

Hunger Games Bracelet

First off, apologies for the blog silence this past week. Last week was the last week of term and it was slightly crazy getting all my work done for the last day! I am spending all week this week in a primary school and loving it! Next week I will be at home, relaxing and hopefully, attempting some of the projects I have pinned and haven't had the time to try out!

So, Friday: Hunger Games is released in cinemas (although I am not seeing it until next Wednesday :( !). I am loving the Hunger Games projects that are scattered around the blogworld at the moment! Following from my Hunger Games cushion, I made a friendship bracelet in co-ordinating colours to wear next week when I finally get to see the film!

To make your own Hunger Games friendship bracelet, check out this tutorial but use 4 strands of thread; 2 black and 2 gold.
Hope you all enjoy the film this week. May the odds be ever in your favour!

Hunger Games - Cushion

source
After watching a trailer for ‘Hunger Games’ in November, I thought 'that is a film I will have to see'. It took  Sweet Verbena to remind me of the film but also make me aware of the books behind it. I instantly wanted to read the books but forced myself to wait until after term had ended so that I could afford some time to enjoy them. Apparently I didn’t need long! I downloaded ‘Hunger Games’ to my kindle on the 25th and read the entire book that day and started ‘Catching Fire’ as well. I finished ‘Catching Fire’ on the morning of the 28th. Having finished my uni work for the day I downloaded ‘Mockingjay’ and read it for a couple of hours in the afternoon. After dinner I read for at least 4 hours straight until I had finished! Not having read like this in ages, it was felt strange, to be so caught up in the story, entwined in what was going on, I literally couldn’t put the book down. I recommend these books wholeheartedly with the warning that I could not put these books down until I had finished the whole set!

The books were completely addicting and absorbing and I cannot wait to read them again! The next big thing, however, is the release of the film in March! I have watched the trailer a zillion times, forced my firiends to watch it and been more excited at the pospect of seeing the trailer at the cinema than the actual film I was going to see! I am loving the countdown to the Hunger Games on Busy Bee Lauren every week - a must read for any Hunger Games fan!

In honour of my new found love I decided to make a cushion. Using the template on Sweet Verbena, I made a freezer paper stencil and gold fabric paint to paint the mockingjay onto black. I then used orange fabric to make the ruffles round the edges to symbolise 'the girl on fire'.

Have you read the Hunger Games yet?
