Hello all! I am sharing a super easy project today! Have you seen the amount of elbow patches that are around at the moment? Well there is a very easy way to transform an old plain jumper into a stylish autumnal sweater. It is a simple and effective refashion using materials you might already have in!
(This project is inspired by one I saw in the Cath Kidston 'make!' book)
Materials
Plain jumper
Embroidery Thread
Patterned Fabric
Bondaweb
1. Put on the jumper and use a pin to mark where your elbows are
2. Make a template for the elbow patches by drawing a rectangle 8cm x 15cm. Fold it into quarters and draw a curve across the unfolded corners - this should give you the oval shape for the patches - trim as desired to get the shape you want.
3. Draw round the template twice on paper side of Bondaweb
4. Following the instructions on the Bondaweb, iron it onto the reverse side of the patterned fabric and then peel off to leave an adhesive layer on the back of the fabric
5. Line up the patches over each elbow making sure they are in the same place on each arm. Also, check that they are on the back of your sleeve so they will cover the elbow. Follow Bondaweb instructions to attach the patch to the jumper
6. Using your embroidery thread, sew blanket stitch all the way round the patch. This is for security and looks!
And that's it! So grab an plain jumper and raid your fabric stash to find the perfect patch!
I'd love to know if you give this a go!
Have a fabulous day!
Those are cute! I haven't seen elbow patches for a long, long time, and they were never cute like this. :-)
